For 300 years the infamous Mr. Punch has entertained and enthralled Irish audiences with his brand of zany slapstick humour.
The earliest known Irish “Punch Man” was Dubliner Martin Powell who established the famous “Punch’s Theatre” in Covent Garden London in 1709*.
Over the centuries he’s appeared in streets and theatres the world over, playing for lords and ladies, kings and queens. His fans included Jonathan Swift, George Washington and Ireland’s first President, Douglas Hyde. The originator of slapstick comedy (a term which came from Punch’s famous weapon!) Punch has, to this day, influenced all styles of comedy
This new version of the classic Mr Punch tale, is your chance to see him at his wildest and most boisterous.
This new production, presented like a live cartoon is the first of its kind, fusing traditional puppet theatre with the best of traditional Irish music.
